There’s a knack to that. Plain speaking is valuable to allow us to acknowledge shortcomings, address them and move forward. Speaking gently is valuable because it respects people’s dignity, and can build bridges.
There aren’t many people who can do both at the same time. Master that and you’ll master getting people on-side to influence change together. Logic on its own won’t convince someone to see your point of view. Understanding first, and logic second is a better strategy.
Speak the brutal truth, but gently.
