Do as I say, not as I do

We all know it doesn’t work. You know it intuitively — people respond to and mimic each other’s behaviour. It’s how we learn as infants, and we keep doing it our whole lives.

Why then do we think that debate, argument and logic have any place in influencing people to behave differently? If as a leader you are doing the things you expect your people to do, you won’t have to tell them. The more leaders have to talk about change, the less likely it is they are effectively enacting it.

Asking someone to “Do as I say, not as I do” is futile!
