You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink. People are even harder to convince. So don’t try to. Be consistent. Be clear. Set expectations and boundaries, and then enact them yourself. Demonstrate success through your actions and people will emulate you. Make sure they know you’ve got their back. Make sure they’ve got evidence. Prove it to them a few times (it won’t take many times for most people), and they’ll start to believe in you. People are motivated by the things they believe in! In the posthumous words of Elvis Presley, try “A little less conversation, a little more action”.
Something I’ve been trying to tell people lately — when you make a decision, tell them why. Tell them how. Take them on the journey.
I agree Nerissa — Take them on the journey — it’s something you do.
